Sheffield United will hold out for around £30m for Arsenal target Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal have made Ramsdale their preferred goalkeeper target but face a fight to prise him away from the Blades and have already had two offers rejected.

Sheffield United re-signed their academy product Ramsdale from Bournemouth a year ago for an initial £18.5m but would be reluctant sellers and would only be prepared to let the 23 year-old leave for a significant profit.

A portion of any fee will also be due to Bournemouth who secured a sell-on clause in last summer’s deal.

Arsenal have signed Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga for a combined £25m and agreed to Brighton a guaranteed £50m for Ben White.

They also hope to strengthen in a number of other positions this summer, leaving them weighing up a third bid for Ramsdale who was part of England’s Euro 2020 squad.

Arsenal are understood to be in the market for a new stopper, amid doubts surrounding current No 1 Bernd Leno.

Arteta backed the German goalkeeper over Emi Martinez last summer, sanctioning the Argentine’s sale to Aston Villa.

Yet Martinez has thrived at Villa Park while Leno made a handful of errors at crucial points last season, leaving Gunners supporters doubtful over his credentials as the No 1 moving forwards.

Ramsdale has made 75 top flight appearances for United and former club Bournemouth, keeping a total of 10 clean sheets in the league across two seasons.

He joined the Blades from the Cherries for £18.5m and he has three years left on his current contract.
