There was a time when hydrogen-powered fuel cell cars (FCEV) seemed poised to compete with battery electric vehicles (EVs). Though the technology has always lagged behind in terms of maturity, manufacturers and consumer groups acknowledged that in some crucial ways, zero-emission FCEVs could outperform the EV and deliver a driving experience very close to that of an internal combustion engine (ICE).
